Agia Varvara beach

Located on the southwest coast of Corfu, Agia Varvara Beach—also known to some as Malta Beach—is the natural extension of the neighbouring Marathias Beach. The only thing separating the two is a cluster of beachfront homes and tavernas that mark the subtle transition. The beach takes its name from the small chapel of Agia Varvara, perched on a hill above the road.

This is a long, golden-sand beach with crystal-clear, shallow waters, making it ideal for families and swimmers of all levels. While parts of the beach are organized with umbrellas and sunbeds, there’s plenty of open space for those who prefer to bring their own gear or seek a more peaceful experience away from the crowds.

Agia Varvara has been repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag for its exceptional water quality. In addition to sunbeds and umbrellas, you’ll find beach bars, water sports facilities, and local tavernas serving everything from snacks to traditional Corfiot dishes.

How to Get There

The beach is best reached by car, scooter, or ATV, as there is no direct public transport to the area. Driving distances:

  • 1 hour 15 minutes (43.6 km) from Corfu Town
  • 16 minutes (11.5 km) from Lefkimmi
  • 7 minutes (4 km) from the charming village of Perivoli
