Kalami beach Kythira

Kalami beach is one of the most picturesque beaches of Kythera. It is located on the west side of the island, at the end of a steep gorge. It is a small beach with thick and fine pebbles, surrounded by steep high cliffs. The crystal-clear,  blue and deep waters are ideal for snorkeling. In the center of the bay there is an old sunken cannon that is one of the attractions of the beach. Kalami is not an organized beach and does not get crowded. It's popular for people who like adventure, isolated  beaches and το swim away from the hustle and bustle. If you decide to visit the beach you must bring water, food and an umbrella for shade with you, as there is no natural shade on the beach.

To get to the beach you have to take the scenic drive from the traditional village of Mylopotamos towards  the Monastery of Agia Orfani. There you can park the car and walk for about 20' - 30' minutes via hiking path that leads to the top of a steep slope. The descent to the beach is difficult and for that reason ropes have been placed on the side of the cliff. Caution is required as the path in some places has a great degree of difficulty and the descent to the beach is dangerous. It's advised to wear sport shoes and not to carry many things with you as it will be quite difficult to take them down to the beach.
