Avali beach
This is a great secluded beach far from the crowds. Very difficult to get to, but very idyllic once you arrive. The tricky drive down the steep winding road is not for nervous drivers but the reward is a quiet, unspoilt paradise beach with a great little bar. Avali beach is a great place to swim, snorkel and sunbathe. The sea is so nice and warm with a spectacular azure color. Do not expect to find an organized, cosmopolitan beach with umbrellas and loungers, so take a parasol or a pop-up beach shelter as there is no shade.
This heaven is the perfect choice if you want to avoid summer crowds. You may well see some naked people here so puritans beware. Staying on the beach till dusk to watch the sunset, is a unique experience. Take a bottle of Greek wine and watch the horizon to be colored on a dip pink as the sun dips into the waters of the Ionian Sea. Avali is situated on the northern side of Lefkada Island and can reached from Kalamitsi village. There is parking space and a little eatery which only operates during the summer months. It provides tables and seats for visitors and offers great views to the beach. From the parking lot, it’s around a 5-minute walk down to the beach.
