Agios Nikitas Beach

The secluded beach of Agios Nikitas is located 65km south of Heraklion, on the east side of the Asterousia Mountains. Hidden behind the mountain, the wild beach is surrounded by imposing cliffs. It is a beautiful, pebbly beach with crystal-clear blue waters. On the east there is a second beach, accessible through swimming or by boat. The two beaches are separated by a huge rock, on which according to legend, are the footprints of Saint Nikitas' horse.

Above the beach stands the Monastery of Agios Nikitas, through which one must pass to reach the beautiful beach. The path leading down to the coast has approximately 200 steps. Agios Nikitas beach is totally isolated with no amenities at all, so you should be equipped with plenty of water and whatever else you need necessary. You should have in mind that nudism is forbidden at it is considered offensive to monks.

The best way to get there is through a dirt track that starts from the village of Achentria and ends at the Monastery of St. Nikitas after 15km. The route runs along steep cliffs and wild sharp rocks.
