The Herea - Pythagoreia Festival takes place in the wider region of Pythagorion, Samos. Its reference point, is the Ionian land in Minor Asia, and the universal values that it delivered to modern world through Pythagoras, Aristarchus, Aesop and many other great Samian men of ancient Greece. Through various philosophical, scientific conferences and cultural events, it aims to promote the local culture of Samos, and to help financially the local community. The major event of the festival is the representation of the ancient feast of Herea that used to be held in Samos about 2,400 years ago.
This festival is one of the greatest festivals in Northern Aegean, and attracts people from the entire world. The "Herea - Pythagoreia" Festival is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the European Commission UNESCO in Athens and the Hellenic Olympic Committee. It is organized annually by the Municipality of Eastern Samos and has the support of the Hellenic Organization of Tourism (G.N.T.O.) and the Cultural Association "Lykourgos".
