Fishermen Huts

The National Park of Axios Delta constitutes a long coastal line that spans far enough from the urban life and offers lots of photo opportunities. In the coastal part there is a series of traditional wooden fishing huts, built in 2000 for mussel farmers and local fishermen in order to store their boats and equipment as well as to have a place to relax during work breaks. The two-storey huts are built on stilts and seem from afar like they are floating on the water. Many of the fishermen have turned the upper floor into a house with a small living room and a kitchen. Local authorities aim to exploit the area for tourism and recently supplied with water and electricity the huts. Located approximately 29,5 km from the fairly crowded city of Thessaloniki, the area is considered to be one of the biggest and most important national parks in Greece. Remote locations full of fishing huts, wooden boats, piers, fauna and more, offer a lot out of the ordinary photographic themes. The fishermen huts are a great destination to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Access is very easy although signage is limited. The huts are only a few kilometers from the Athens-Thessaloniki highway and almost the entire route is on paved road. The best way to get there is to take the exit to Chalastra and before entering the village to make a u-turn and head towards the sea.
