Nestor's Cave
Nestor’s cave is located in the rocks at the west end of Voidokilia beach. Many will be a little disappointed by the empty but large cave however if you can picture the mythology of this cave, attributed to the place where royal cattle supposedly resided and the possibility that Hermes hid the 50 cattle stolen from Apollo, it does become something a little magical. This is a spacious cavern with a depth of 20 meters and a height of 20 meters with majestic walls and an almost triangle entrance.
There, archaeological excavations have unearthed artifacts dating back to the early Hellenistic period. Those finds testify the existence of life in the area since those early years. The cave is not much to look at, but interesting if you like mythology and you want to enjoy spectacular views. It is a good walk up from the beach but well worth the effort for the views. The path is obvious and with a sensible level of fitness, it is perfectly doable. Just to the right of the cave entrance (as you look at it) is the path that leads to the rather adventurous climb up to the Frankish castle above. So, while on the beach, you can escape the sun by taking a short and easy hike up the hillside to Nestor's Cave.
