The Monument of the tomb of Kolones
The Monument of the tomb of the 4th c. B.C. is now restored on the southernmost cape of the island. The monument had collapsed for the most part, mainly due to natural causes. It is a monumental built circular burial enclosure that enclosed at least four burials of persons of the same family. Its construction is placed in the second quarter of the 4th c. B.C. It is the time when a trend of exaggeration characterizes the "marking" of tombs throughout Attica.
The enclosure, totaling 3.50m. and 10.70 meters in diameter, has been made of 6 rows of local limestone boulders. Besides burials, there is also a part of a built square that was originally believed to have come from the architectural members of the enclosure when it had begun to collapse and burial was interrupted. From the evidence that came to light during the exploration of the monument during the restoration work, it appears that it is a pedestal of similar dimensions of the enclosure on which a sculptural composition, probably of a marble pyramid, and a marble tombstone with the inscription .
It is probable that its height was such that its upper part was visible even by ships. In the area in front of the entrance, the trench had been opened with the burials, which were covered by a low clay mound and a final mortar coating. Two marble sarcophagi, one proletolithic and one burial pyramid were found in the tunnel.
