Dokos Castle
Dokos is an island of Argosaronic which is opposite Ermioni, in the strait between Hydra, Ermioni and Spetses. It is one of the few Greek islands with a masculine name.
Structure, Fortification & Buildings
The top of the rock was enclosed by a wall with three rectangular towers and three gates, while inside there were basilicas and cisterns.
The settlement had grown outside the castle, on the slopes.
To the south of the castle, the modern church of St. John the Theologian has been built on a three-aisled basilica of the 7th century, as can be seen from the visible building remains and pottery.
