Kalivaki beach

Μετάφραση Greek Version

A True Heaven for Beachgoers and Families, near Rethymno, Northern Crete

Kalivaki beach is a spectacular curved beach with small sand dunes, soft sand in and out the water and beautiful views of the little white chapel of St. Nicholas and the mountains in the background. It is sheltered with a small river running in to it at one end and a second one at the other end. Walk to the river mouth to watch the sea turtles and the kingfishers. At the river end the water is ice cold and so refreshing. The waters are very clean and you can actually see through them. The beach is sheltered and the sea is friendly for children and shallow for a good distance. Kalivaki beach is a quiet relaxing place away from the maddening crowd of other beaches in the area. However, during the weekends the number of visitors increase significantly. It is a also a great spot for diving and snorkeling.

The beach is well-organized with parasols and sun loungers. A couple of cafes and taverns are also available where you grab drinks and food. The beach runs to the west of Georgioupolis, 37km east of Chania and 21km west of Rethymnon. It is easy to reach by foot or car and has plenty of parking space. Behind the parking lot you can find stone model replicas of ancient Greek structures, a must see. If in the area, it is definitely worth a stop.
