Afentis Christos

Afentis Christos is a tiny islet with an area of 4,400 sq.m, off the northern coast of Crete. It is named after the small chapel of the Transfiguration of the Savior, located on the island. The chapel celebrates on August, 6, day on which a big feast is held and many people come from Malia and the wider area. The islet is near the beach of Malia and very close to the islet of Agia Varvara also known as Gialouri. Remnants of Venetian barracks, and a Minoan cemetery with carved graves on the rocks can also be found on the islet. You can swim to the islet from the opposite coast of Malia as the distance is very short, alternatively you can reach it by boat.
