Feast of Panagia Kanala
Panagia Kanala is the patron saint of Kythnos. Its miraculous icon is housed in a small basilica in the village of Kanala, on the south-east of the island. The Church of Panagia Kanala is considered the most important spiritual and religious monument on the island of Kythnos and its feast day celebrations on August 15, are renowned all over the Aegean. On the eve day, the Great Vespers are chanted, followed by a great festival in the village with traditional music and dancing. The following day, takes place the procession of the icon through the village and the reenactment of the discovery of the icon. Apart from the local population, in the festive events participate tourists and dozens of believers from all parts of Greece, who come to Kythnos to worship the miraculous icon.
