The International Festival of Andros is housed in the Open-Air Theater of Chora. Under the artistic direction of Pantelis Voulgaris, the theater hosts some of the most important theatrical performances and concerts of the summer. Over the past years, the festival has hosted great theatrical performances, classical and contemporary dances, classical and modern concerts and local performances. It aims to meet the high demands of large performances and to make Andros a cultural center in the Cyclades. The festival is organized by the Non-Profit Organization “Friends of Andros Festival” and has the support of local and non-local sponsors, volunteers and the Municipality of Andros. It is a great festival for those who love culture, arts and nature and attracts plenty of locals and tourists every year. Thanks to this festival, the island of Andros entered the list of places, where such significant cultural events are organized during the summer months.
The International Festival started in 2015 under the auspices of Andros Municipality and takes place every year from the end of July to the end of August. It is held in the open theater of Andros, located in Chora, between the neoclassical building of the City Hall and the Lyceum. The Open Theater began to be built in 2014 on a plot of land owned by the municipality of Andros, on an idyllic slope. It is located in a spot protected from the wind and with a panoramic view to the south. The stage is based on the standards of the ancient theaters of the classical period and is one of the most daring interventions in the public space of Andros. The theater’s capacity is 870 seats.
