Orlias Waterfalls

Just few km from Dion, in footstep of the mountain of the Gods you can find one of most magnificent places on Olympus Mountain. The Orlias Gorge runs through the north-eastern part of Mount Olympus, in Northern Greece. It is a very beautiful gorge with several smaller and larger waterfalls and natural pools, easy to get into and swim in the deep crystal-clear blue waters. A real unspoiled nature, so beautiful and so relaxing. The Orlias Waterfalls are easily accessible at the bottom a 5 min walk from the road but you can also do a hike up from the bottom to the big Red Rock waterfall which is amazing with a big clear pool beneath it. Visiting these waterfalls and taking a quick dip is an unforgettable experience, however, keep in mind the water is very cold even in the summer months but so refreshing.

Once in the area do not miss out. Well worth the visit and it can easily be combined with a trip to the Dion Museum and archaeological park. There are no facilities on the site, so make sure you have with you water and if going for a swim a towel and a change of clothes. For those of you that do not, cannot or unable to walk long distances this is probably the easiest to access being only a short walk from where you can park the car. In terms of reaching the waterfall it is easy to find if you leave the village of Dion and follow the signs for the refuge of Koromilia and Olymbos. It is about a four kilometers drive and sometimes the chapel Konstantinos and Eleni is also indicated on a sign, but not consistently. The road is good but has some steep ascents and sharp turns. You can park near the chapel and start hiking from there. You will need good walking shoes and you will have an enjoyable day out. However, this spot has become a bit too known, so make sure to visit early (as in, 8 am) if you want to avoid the crowds.
