Zesta Nera Waterfalls
The area "Zesta Nera" is on the riverbed of the Krousovitis river, near the hill Mavros Vrachos, 2 km northeast of Sidirokastro in the prefecture of Serres. The name of the area derives from the hot springs that can be found there. In the area, there is one of the largest travertine caves in the world with two entrances, four chambers and a length of about 130 meters. At the entrances of the cave, there are two waterfalls, about 15 meters high, with water coming from the hot springs of the area that lie just 500 meters away. The water of the waterfalls has a temperature of about 23° C.
A few meters further, there are the two artificial waterfalls where the inhabitants of the wider area fish and cool off in their icy waters on hot summer days. The waterfalls are in the middle of a very beautiful area with lush vegetation and age-old plane trees.
