Agios Ilias Lighthouse
The Agios Ilias Lighthouse, also known as the Katapola Lighthouse, was originally built in 1882 and is one of the oldest beacons in Greece’s historic lighthouse network. It stands in Vathy, on the northern cape of the Bay of Katapola, offering a glimpse into Amorgos’ maritime past.
Although only the ruins of the old stone tower and the keeper’s house remain today, the site is absolutely worth visiting. The panoramic views over the deep blue Aegean are breathtaking—especially at sunset, when the light reflects across the water. Just above the original structure, a modern metal beacon now marks the spot where the old lighthouse once guided sailors.
This peaceful headland is an ideal stop for travellers seeking scenic walks, photography, and a quiet moment overlooking one of Amorgos’ most beautiful seascapes.
