Church of Agia Marina

The impressive church is located in the area of Vountima on the northwest side of mountain Parnitha in the region of Attica. It was built about 800 years ago, on a rock, in honor to Agia Marina. Next to the church there is a cave, where according to the religious tradition, the icon of Agia Marina was found. In the courtyard there is a place where the visitor can sit and enjoy the view.

To get to the church you must first reach the village of Avlona. From there you have to follow the road towards the church of Agios Nikolaos. Up to 3 km before the church of Agios Nikolaos the road is asphalt. The next 3 km is a dirt road, not in a very good condition. Where the road ends a hiking trail starts. The hiking trail is relatively easy, enjoyable, with about 1 hour hiking in a pine forest. In some places caution is needed due to the slope of the ground. The path is in good condition and there are signs painted on stones that show the right way.
