Chania

Ferries and cruise ships to Chania dock at Port Souda, located approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) to the southeast from Chania. Souda itself is a port town. The port lies along the north-western coast of Crete and is the main sea gateway for Western Crete. Souda Bay is one of the largest natural harbors in the Mediterranean and a very busy working port. It is the second biggest port in Crete from where daily ferries connect the Souda to the port of Piraeus in Athens making travelling easy and comfortable. The port of Souda serves also commercial purposes, while here is handled a large volume of the agricultural production of the prefecture. It is a very safe port and provides all the necessary facilities and services for yachts and sailing boats including fuel, water and laundry facilities. Due to its geographical position and strategic importance, Souda Bay also hosts the naval base of the Hellenic Navy and NATO.

Shuttle buses are used for passengers’ transportation between Souda and Chania Central Bus Station. It is a 20 minutes bus ride to Chania and the shuttle service costs extra. Buses stop about 50 meters from the dock and tickets are available at a booth. In Chania the shuttle bus stops in front of Chania’s Old Market building from where you need to walk 10 minutes to the Old Venetian Harbor of Chania where the major attractions are situated. Taxis in the port of Souda are limited, so it’s highly recommended to use a shuttle bus.
