Relax on the Serene Beach Connected to Zorba’s Legacy

A great beach with a good choice of sunbeds at varying prices, waiter service on the beach and lots of watersports available. The sea is crystal clear and softly shelving, warm in places, but with tendrils of cold emanating from the freshwater springs that feed the bay. Also, pretty safe for little ones and non-swimmers. The sheltered beach has fine whitish sand which is great for families with children and lots of places to eat and drink.

Kalogria is a rather small beach in a glorious setting and quite close to all amenities. On the way down to the beach, do not miss the bust of Kazantzakis, and the recently added murals of Alexis Zorbas and the author who made him so famous. At its the northern end, is the house where the famous author lived for two years (1917-1919) with Zorbas and at the southern end near the beach, the cave where the writer found refuge for reading and writing. Visitors can visit the cave either by swimming or by boat.

Moreover, be sure to take photos overlooking the bay from the road that leads to Stoupa and if you stay on the beach till late, you will enjoy one of the best sunsets in Greece. Kalogria beach is the most famous and crowded beach in Western Mani, so try to avoid it during the busiest weeks of the season, if you do not like being jammed in a tiny space. Overall, a fabulous beach to go and spend the day if you are visiting this part of the Peloponnese. The beach of Kalogria is 40 km from Kalamata and 6.5 km from Kardamyli.
