Unwind at Methoni: A Scenic Beach with Castle Views
Methoni beach lies in a natural bay right in front the picturesque village of the same name. It is an extremely large beach mostly with sand and some pebbles on the eastern side. The water is clear and blue and the beach has been awarded several times the European Blue Flag. It is a family friendly beach with shallow water and very safe for little children. On the right is the imposing castle of Methoni and across the beach the island of Sapientza. A small pier with lots of colorful small boats add to the whole setting.
Methoni beach gets busy in peak season, mainly with locals and those who have chosen the picturesque town for their holidays. Some tamarisk trees offer shade but there are also plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds to hire if you are looking for more comfort. Near the beach, you can find taverns, cafes and tourist shops. If you want to stay overnight, there is plenty of accommodation options for all budgets.
Methoni Town is located in the south of the Peloponnese, 61 kilometers from Kalamata and 10 kilometers from Pylos. A free parking lot is available near the castle, just a few meters of the beach. A day on this lovely beach can be combined with a visit to the castle and a nice stroll through the beautiful streets of the town. Do not miss to visit the neighboring towns Koroni and Pylos and make an excursion to the Gialova Lagoon and the famous Voidokoilia beach.
