Unwind on Messinia’s Serene Southern Coastline
Zaga is a long beach with turquoise water and some turtle nests roped off as you walk along the coast. It is mainly sand with a few small pebbles mixed in, and has some tamarisk trees for shade. It extends southwest of Koroni and is almost 4 km long, therefore it is good for long beach walks. Along the beach there are vineyards, olive groves, trees and bushes. Parts of the beach are organized with sun beds and parasols to rent. Moreover, there are beach bars, changing rooms, showers, beach volley courts, football fields and some watersport facilities. Apart from the organized parts, there are quiet spots for those who prefer to stay away from crowds. The area has a good tourist infrastructure with hotels, family pensions and some seaside taverns. Zaga beach is very close to the picturesque town of Kornoni and is accessible through the Eleistra Monastery in Koroni. It is by far the best beach in the area and certainly a place worth visiting if you are in the small town. Do not miss to visit the old historical castle of Koroni which apart from its great historical interest, offers amazing views over Zaga beach and Koroni itself.
