Agios Isidoros Chapel is one of the most iconic landmarks of Leros and among the most photographed churches in the Dodecanese. Located in Gourna Bay, about 500 metres from the small village of Kokkali, this charming whitewashed chapel stands on a rocky islet connected to the mainland by a narrow stone causeway, creating one of the island's most picturesque and romantic settings.

The short walk to the chapel is part of the experience. Visitors cross the narrow pathway above the sea before climbing a few steps to reach the entrance. During windy weather or after rough seas, the causeway can become wet and slippery, so comfortable footwear and extra care are recommended.

Inside, the small church features traditional Orthodox icons, religious artwork and an elegant golden chandelier that decorates the simple interior. According to local tradition, the chapel was built on the site of an ancient temple, and traces of its foundations can still be seen behind the altar.

Today, Agios Isidoros Church is not only an important place of worship but also one of the best photo spots in Leros. The panoramic views over Gourna Bay, the crystal-clear waters and the dramatic coastal scenery make it a favourite destination for photographers, especially at sunset. It is also a popular venue for weddings and christenings, with many couples choosing this unique seaside chapel for their special day.

The chapel celebrates the feast of Saint Isidoros every year on 14 May, when locals and visitors gather to honour the island's patron saint.
