Agia Triada Monastery

The monastery of Agia Triada (Holy Trinity) is located in a gorge on the northern hill of Mount Olympus, at a distance of about four kilometers from the village of Vrontou in Pieria. Near the monastery is the chapel of Agia Kori with a holy spring, and a small waterfall that forms natural pools where you can swim. The small church which is built on top of a steep rock, is what's left of a larger monastery of the 14th century. When the monastery was founded, there were lots of hermitages all around.  The interior walls of the church are decorated with two layers of hagiographies – the first from 1350 and the second from 1650. Unfortunately, the church suffered significant damage in the 60s, after a fire caused by burning candles.

Today, the chapel is one of the main attractions in the area and attracts crowds of visitors. The impressive church at the top of the steep rock offers great views over the mountain peaks of Olympus and the plain of Pieria. From this point start two hiking trails to the peak of Mt. Olympus. The church is located on the road to Agia Kori and getting there is very easy.
