Ancient Cemetery of Paros
This is the official cemetery of the ancient city with a very great extent and use of the 8th century BC to the 2nd century AD The tombs of the Archaic period (cist tombs and burials in pots) are organized in places designated by large vertical and horizontal walls. In the 5th century BC burials are mainly marble urns, and in monumental structures with pedestals and tombstones. In later Hellenistic and Roman times used mainly marble sarcophagi podium. An important finding is a mass grave ("polyandrion") of the Geometric period, which is the only one that has been found in the Aegean Sea. Today, the site operates as an archaeological park where visitors can admire many discoveries.
