Ammoudi

Ammoudi is a lovely, small harbor on the island of Santorini. During the 19th and 20th century, it was the main port of Oia, the place where all trade and commerce took place. Most of the buildings are old warehouses. Today, this picturesque cove is used by boats and sea taxis to carry passengers to Thirasia and to Nea Kameni. The old warehouses have been turned into traditional fish taverns serving fresh fish and delicious seafood.

Literally dug into red volcanic rocks, it is mostly known for the wonderful view it offers and the natural beauty of the landscape. Ammoudi is probably the most picturesque spot on the island and the ideal place to enjoy an amazing sunset while enjoying your dinner. Scenes from the Lara Croft Tomb Raider film: "The Cradle of Life" were shot in the sea area around Ammoudi.

To reach Ammoudi you have to climb down the approximately 214 steps that separate it from Oia’s castle or ride a donkey. Alternatively, you can drive the downhill road that leads there. Next to Ammoudi there is a small pebbled beach where you can swim in its deep blue waters or dive from the cliffs.
