Puzzle Museum
The Puzzle Museum in Megisti was founded by mathematician Pantazis Houlis and hosts over 4,000 exhibits, many of which are invented and constructed by himself. It is the first Puzzle Museum in Greece and one of the largest in the world, attracting people of all ages. Although, there are other four Puzzle Museums around the world, the one in Kastelorizo is the only interactive museum worldwide.
The island has a tradition in puzzles which is demonstrated by 19th century magazines with puzzles that can been found in the Folklore Museum of the island and by the existence of countless riddles in the form of a poem in the newspaper Kastellorizian News of the 60s. Greece has also a historically proven tradition in puzzles, with Archimedes’ Ostomachion being humanity’s first three-dimensional puzzle and the Sphinx’s Enigma being the first verbal puzzle. Since October 2020, the Puzzle Museum has been declared as a European STARTS Center (Science + Technology + Arts).
