The Ottoman cemetery

The Ottoman cemetery, small in size, is a burial site for the eminent Ottomans, from 1822 to 1890. The tomb marks, the elaborate tombstones which were blue in golden letters, belong to the late Ottoman baroque. Each column ends in a headgear, indicating the degree of the dead man when he was alive. The one and only carnivore to be found belongs to Kara Ali, an admiral who found death when Kanaris blew the Turkish flagship at the harbor of Chios in 1822. The Ottoman cemetery is located within the Castle.
