Municipal Library of Poros

The Municipal Library of Poros was founded in 1976 as "Model Library" and in the mayoralty of Stelios Solomonidis. It was originally housed in a Hall of the Municipal Shop. The first donation of books was made by the Lambrakis Press Group. These books as well as some older ones that existed in the town hall were their first potential. There were many other donations, mainly from the inhabitants of Poros, which resulted in its enrichment. In 1993, on behalf of the Municipality of Poros, a bequest of Alexandros and Katina Chatzopoulou, with the purpose of rebuilding a neoclassical building for the housing of "Chatzopoulio Municipal Library of Poros", was honored in the municipality of Spiros Spyridon, in honor of its benefactors. The building was erected on a municipal plot on the ruins of the old school on the island, where all older generations had learned their first letters. The library was installed in a large room on the 1st floor of the building. Build all the required equipment with showcases, offices, reading room, books book system, etc. Today, the Municipal Library of Poros operates daily in the morning and afternoon, with a potential that exceeds eighty-five thousand titles of books for each subject, age and interest, as well as over-the-counter compact discs (DVDs) and documentaries with documentaries and other educational subjects.
