Port of Hydra

This is the first and last stop for visitors. The port of Hydra welcomes you to a "picture" full of grey, white and blue while you try to divert your gaze from the large cruise ships, impressive yachts and beautiful boats which come and go while you take your stroll. The statue of Andreas Miaoulis is a landmark in the port. It stands imposing to the left, eliciting memories of the island's glorious past. The famous cannons are to the left and right of the port. To the west of Miaoulis's statue is the old stone armory which houses the Port Authority, while a few steps away is the Hydra Historical Archive whose characteristic marble facade will attract your gaze. The Merchant Marine Academy (the former Tsamadou residence) is a stone's throw from the port. Continuing on the road you will come across the Gymnasium, the Agias Fotinis Monastery district, Kala Pigadia, Prophitis Ilias and Agias Evpraxias Monastery. The cathedral of Hydra, built in 1648 and reconstructed in 1774, is in the center of the port.
