Velouchi Ski Resort
Velouchi Ski Resort is situated amongst beautiful nature in a very mountainous area in Central Greece with lots of beautiful forests all around. It was established in 1974 making it one of the oldest in Greece and is just 12 km away from the town of Karpenissi. Situated at an altitude of 1,840 m, this ski resort has great slopes for new and experienced skiers. With a peak elevation of 2,220 m, it offers skiers and snowboarders a 380 m vertical drop. In total the ski resort offers 8.4 km of marked trails with 44% (3.7 km) of the total trails ideal for beginners, 32% (2.7 km) of the total trails being suitable for intermediate skiers and 24% (2 km) for the more advanced and expert of level skiers and snowboarders. Two of the slopes are for snowboarding and four slopes for freestyle skiing. It has modern lifts and snow conditions tend to be surprisingly good given the geographical latitude it lies at. It is famous for its good quality of snow and for its night skiing on the two illuminated slopes. There is a ski school for beginners, ski equipment rental shops, and a nice snow bar “Ice Bar” which organizes great parties with DJs. Visitors can enjoy hot drinks and traditional meals at the restaurant of the chalet and they can stay overnight in its rooms or in the mountain refuge. Future plans also include the construction of a hotel unit. The ski resort offers snow cover for a long period since the area has low temperatures throughout the winter season. It usually operates from mid-December to early April from 09:00 a.m. to 16:00 p.m. Velouchi Ski Resort is 284 km from Athens and the trip takes about 4 hours.
