Agios Dimitrios - Agios Andonios – Zoodochos Pigi Monastery
Agios Antonios is a small church that seems hooked on the steep northern coastline of Anafi. A trip to the site is definitely worth it, especially if you have already completed the previous routes. The small church, where the route ends, dates back to the Byzantine period and belongs to the Hozoviotissa Monastery of Amorgos (Hozoviotissa’s glebe). At Agios Antonios you will also find some remarkable 14th century murals.
The usual route begins at the Agios Mamas church (1) or the Agios Dimitrios site (2), where the dirt road ends, giving way to a clearly visible trail that leads to Agios Antonios (3). Even more interesting – and this is why it is mentioned in this guide is the route that starts from the Zoodohos Pigi Monastery (5). Crossing Halepas slopes (4), you reach Agios Antonios, after which you will find yourselves at Agios Dimitrios and the main asphalt road close to Agios Mamas church. This is the final part of the route, and it is advisable to have already planned out your trip back to your departure point. This route is relatively difficult between points (4) and (3), as you have to climb down a steep slope that requires some hiking experience.
