The Tour of Mountain Ellanion

Circular Route: Anitseou-Vlachides-Sfendouri-Achlada-Analipsi (Profet Elias)-Taxiarches-Anitseou

The route starts from the Panagia Church in Anitsaio and follows the cement road to the Aposporides. With a good path, it soon reaches the three old wells of the village, where the two directions of this cyclical path converge. The direction of the route description is clockwise, so we turn right (north). The path is very damp and smooth and leads to the position of Sfyrixtres, where the large church of Taxiarches dominates and the takeover of a large ancient building, which was related to the important sanctuary of Ellaniou Zeus.

From here, the trail, quite obviously and steadily marked, ascends smoothly to branching: the left branch leads to the top of the Mount, where the Church of Analipsi, while the right one, to follow, descends to the bell tower where we encounter a dirt road. We will now go downhill on a good path through the narrow rocky Chouni ravine, which will take us to the great Souvala Achlada, where the crossroads to Eleonas. From Achlada we take the very good path to Sfentouri, with a nice view to the west side of the island.

We cross Sphentouri to the cemetery of Agios Ioannis, where we enter the path again. The path traverses a long dry slope and descends to a great stream near the Vlachides. We cross the very small settlement, climbing up the rocky ridge, passing over the Aposporides and ending in the three wells, above our starting point.

The course as a whole is the hiking route 1 of the network of Cultural Paths.

The course is very well marked, while at the beginning and on key points of the route there are signs of direction and information.
