Ysternia (Isternia)

The village of Ysternia or Isternia on Tinos Island is about 5 km away from the village of Pyrgos and 20 km away from Chora. It has amazing views of the small harbor just below, but also across all the Aegean and more specifically to the island of Syros. Marble sculpture also plays a leading role in the village as it is the second most important marble-craft center of Tinos after the historic Pyrgos.

Besides, Ysternia is the homeland of many artists with a great history both inside and outside Greece, such as Vitalis, Lameras and Sochos. The marble square of Glyni (1927), the old elementary school (1931), the churches of Agia Paraskevi (1892), Agia Triada (1816) and Agia Anna are representative samples. The Mills of Ysternia, are preserved monuments and the most impressive attractions of the village, a genuine example of the folk art of the village.

In the wider region there are white chapels and an old olive press. In the village there is also a cultural center, a library, as well as some taverns and cafes. The small village has also a museum that hosts works by artists from Ysternia. The Ystrernnian seaport is a seaside settlement famous for its beautiful beach as well as its fish taverns situated by the sea. A great marble path connects the bay with the village of Ysternia, which is well preserved and worth walking.
