Antiparos Chora
Antiparos is home to just one main town. The town is small and highly picturesque, full of cobblestone streets, bougainvillea vines, blue shutters, quaint churches with blue domes and stark-white buildings. It is an attractive little village, built around a 14th century castle (Kastro), which offered shelter to the local population during the time of piracy in the Aegean Sea. All the houses are built one next to another, as part of the surrounding protective wall of the area. Outside of window shopping, the castle is the only major attraction. Start your walk from the quaint port and then head towards the heart of Antiparos Town by walking along the main pedestrianized street. The latter is lined with boutique shops, restaurants and tavernas, bars and lots of cute cafes. Keep walking until you reach the main square and then get lost in the magic of the island’s narrow whitewashed alleys which are filled with photo opportunities. The alleys of the small village are the place where everyone meets in the evenings, enjoying a traditional Greek meal, or having a cold beer. The village is predominantly flat making it walkable. Spend the afternoon shopping at local boutiques and when the night falls, head to the main square of Antiparos Town. Although peaceful and laid-back during the day, the square literally comes to life in the evening. There are mostly clubs playing mainstream music, but also quiter bars for a cocktail. The night scene of Antiparos has something for everyone and is absolutely authentic and irresistibly vintage. And of course, do not miss to visit some of the island’s most gorgeous beaches, situated withing walking distance.
