Vlychos
Vlychos is a beautiful seaside village about 1.7 kilometers west of Hydra Harbor. It is built four meters above the coast and features a few white washed houses with spacious full of flowers yards. The houses are spread on top and around a rock emerging from the sea. Among the houses there is the quaint chapel of Agios Charalambos, the chapels of Agios Kapros and Palylos (1815) and the chapel of Agia Paraskevi which dominates the top of the rock. Next to the rock, there is a lovely beach with pebbles and crystal-clear waters. The beach has umbrellas and chairs and is safe and suitable for children. The village offers amazing sunsets and great view of the tiny and isolated island of Dokos. In Vlychos, there are a few rooms to rent, a couple of tavernas with fresh fish and home cooked food and a bar for drinks.
The easiest way to get to Vlychos is by water taxi in five minutes from the port of Hydra. However, you can hike to Vlychos in about 40 minutes. The walk from Hydra Town is stunning, along a well-traveled dirt path that hugs the coastline, first taking you through Kamini then onto a lovely, newly restored Venetian arched bridge. Once you cross the bridge, and walk a short distance ahead, you will turn right toward the water and you will find the small settlement and beach. On the way, you will stop many times to take photos and enjoy the magnificent views. There is a second approach along a pleasant walking trail that runs from Hydra port to the adorable villages of Kamini and Vlychos. Before you reach Vlychos, you will come to a corner where a bench welcomes you to take in the view. Whatever trail you take, the views are great and you will the chance to explore the beautiful countryside of the island.
