Mesakti beach

Mesakti is a lovely long beach with golden sand and very clear water. Usually known for its waves, but if it is calm, the water invites you to jump right in. It offers nice sandy areas for sunbathing or shady spots under the trees. It is probably the best organized beach on the island, well set up with many umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and wc. Most sun beds are free if you just buy some drinks and food. Mesakti is also a perfect destination if you are looking to do any activities. There’s surfing, paddling, kayaking, beach volleyball, beach football and a surf school for the beginners. There are life guards but you need to be a confident swimmer when the sea is choppy. Days with wild waves, you can see lots of surfers and wind surfers, visiting the beach and practicing their skills.

At one end, there is a fresh water stream that runs on to the beach, creating a small wetland where you can see many turtles. Mesakti is a very popular beach among tourists and locals but rarely overcrowded. The beach is located on the north side of Ikaria, close to Armenistis and next to Gialiskari. Access is easy either by car or bus. To get to the coast, you have to walk several steps down from the main road. There is a large choice of good taverna's within a couple of miles from the beach. If you visit Ikaria, this is a must visit beach.
