Daskalopetra beach
Daskalopetra is a pebble beach with crystalline waters, located approximately 7 km from Chios Town. Entering the sea is quite challenging due to presence of stones, but swimming is great. The beach is named after the Homer’s stone, a seat carved on the rocks where the great poet of Iliad and Odyssey used to sit and teach according to Greek mythology. Near the beach, is a small picturesque fishing port with fishing boats, a good place to buy freshly caught fish. Here, you will also find cafes, taverns, hotels, apartments and studios. On the beach there are some umbrellas for shade, but you will not find any sunbeds, so bring your own towel. Daskalopetra beach is known for its serene and peaceful atmosphere and despite its popularity, it is rarely crowded.
Walk to the northern end of the beach and you will find yourself in a large car park with a restaurant in it. At the back of the car park is a signed path that will take you up the hill through the very scant ruins of a Sanctuary to Cybele. Keep going until you leave the shade of the trees and end up on a small outcrop of rock. It takes about 10 minutes from the car park. You will have lovely views down to the sea. You will also see the remains of a seat carved out of the solid rock. This is supposedly the teacher's chair from which Homer taught! Daskalopetra beach is easily accessible by car or bus, and definitely worth visiting it.
