Lepeda beach
Lepeda Beach is a good beach for families with some shallow areas which are great for kids and have really warm water. The beach is actually divided into 2 parts, one side being a shallow area which is ideal for young children, the other side shallow initially but gradually goes deeper. There are parasols and sun beds available to rent and also a nice volleyball court which is free to use. Yet, there is still room to put a towel down and not feel you are on top of people. The beach is good for snorkeling around the rocks and you will be amazed by the quantity and diversity of sea life. The rocks are perfect to jump into the sea if you are feeling brave enough. Sand is quite red and coarse and the sea is good to swim in. You may find some seaweed in places but it can be easily avoided.
A tavern with fresh fish is available right on the beach, where you can enjoy a nice meal, but if you go out of season take everything you might need for the day. Overall, Lepeda is a nice long beach to visit and have a lovely relaxing day. The beach is about a 30 min beach walk from Lixouri port, and the walk itself is really lovely and picturesque. A torch would be a useful thing if intending to return to Lixouri after dark as road is not well lit. If you drive to the beach, keep in mind that the parking space is limited and you’d better park on the road leading to the beach. This is not one of Kefalonia’s best beaches but it is very convenient for those staying in Lixouri and the surrounding area. It has a good vibe and you will surely enjoy the laid-back atmosphere.
