Mikros Gialos beach
Mikros Gialos is a pebble beach in a fairly small bay. The beach is enclosed on either side with steep green woodland and has views out to the islands of Arkoudi and Atekos. The setting is lovely and the water is warm and green reflecting the pine trees on the surrounding hills. Swimming in the clear waters is a delight but swim at the left side as at the right end the water is much colder due to fresh water springs feeding the bay. The beach itself is mostly small white pebbles and shingle which help to give the sea its characteristic color. It shelves gently at first, then becomes deeper so those who enjoy swimming can do so without having to paddle for ages through shallow water.
There are many umbrellas and sunbeds available but still plenty of space for those who do not want these facilities. Also a few cafes and restaurants next to the beach for coffees, hot and cold snacks, lunches, evening meals and ice creams. The beach is small and gets very busy in high season, so you need to come early as there is very limited parking, and in order to find free sunbeds. Mikros Gialos beach is about 5 km off the main road down a narrow road full of curves going up and down the mountain. Parking is difficult in high season but the atmosphere is great, the sea is blue and there are plenty of places to eat. Overall, it is a great place to spend the day in and out the water, even better if you like sea diving with lots of fish to see.
