Kalamata beach

This is an endless beach in a crescent shape, with cool clear sea water. It is not the prettiest in the region but it is a very pleasant beach on which to sunbathe and swim. The sand is gravely in places with sand towards the port end, but clean, and water is calm and warm. The beach is lined with many lovely cafes and restaurants, all of which have sunbeds at the front which you can use free of charge after purchasing something from the cafe or the restaurant. You can actually enjoy a meal right on the beach and swim in the ocean while admiring the nearby mountains. The backdrop of the Taygetus mountains is stunning, so do not forget your camera. If you walk all the way along the promenade to the end, it is some distance, so you might want to get the bus back into town.

On the plus side, it has lifeguards every 500 meters and an inflated water park. On the negative side, going there on a Sunday morning in August, there are way too many people around. So, if you want to avoid the crowds and unbearable summer heat, you would better visit it in September. While at high season this beach is very lively with lots of water sport and beach activities, restaurants and bars, in the offseason time it gets very tranquil and romantic. In any case, it is worth experiencing it. The beach is situated near the heart of the city. It is accessible from town on foot or by bus which has stops all the way along, and terminates at the Filoxenia hotel in the Verga suburb.
