Kassandra Wreck

The ship "Κassandra" had sailed on February 27, 1973 from the port of Volos with a cargo of 580 tons of cement destined for Patmos, Kalymnos and Kos. The next night the captain left control of the ship to his assistant, to dine. When he returned half an hour later, he realized that his course was wrong and they were heading for a rocky islet. He immediately turned the rudder, but it was too late and the ship ran aground on the rocky bottom near the island of Akio or Patourada in southern Evia. The ship was initially watertight, but began to sink due to water inflow, and finally on March 2, 1973, after its seven-member crew abandoned it, the ship sank.

The shipwreck is in an upright position at the end of the island's rocks on a sandy bottom. It is a very beautiful shipwreck that combines small depth and good visibility, especially in the summer months, making the shipwreck even visible from the surface.

Today the shipwreck is an attraction for diving. Inside the engine room, the diver can see the ship's engine, the pump and some of his instruments, while touring the rest of the space he is given the opportunity to pass with relative safety through stairs and small corridors.

The shipwreck, acting as an artificial reef, has amassed a wide variety of marine life, as the carcass has been turned into a colony of marine flora, making it an excellent subject for photography.
