Zevgolis Tower

The Tower of Zevgolis in Apeiranthos is a magnificent 17th-century two-story Venetian tower. The tower is located near the center of the village and is well preserved. It was built on a rock at the entrance of the village by the Castri family as evidenced by the coat of arms with the lioness of the family at the main entrance. In 1677, according to another inscription, it was bought by the Sommaripa family. Finally, the tower was acquired by the Zevgolis family immediately after the Greek War of Independence in 1821. Together with the tower of Barotsis in Filoti, it served as the residence of the feudal lords of the time. The tower of Zevgolis features some Aegean-style arches and balconies that offer wonderful and panoramic views. It has been renovated and is still in use by the Zevgolis family. It is a private property, so visitors are not allowed. The Tower of Zevgolis still maiintains the same level of grandeur as it did back in the 17th century and is one of the top attractions of Apeiranthos.
