
Historical Archives of the Catholic Diocese of Syros
Next to the ecclesiastical complex of Ag. Georgios in Ano Syros, in the room of the Center for Historical Studies, is the exhibition of the Historical Archive of the Catholic Diocese of Syros. The exhibition includes historical, ecclesiastical, committee, and some of the island's administration from the 16th to the 19th century. Minor and great moments from the everyday life of the inhabitants of Syra during the Ottoman domination, rare publications from the 16th to the 19th century The 18th century by various major printing houses in Europe, as well as geographical maps of Greece, the Cyclades and Syros as they were then mapped. Ecclesiastical heirlooms and other objects, tools and works of religious painting are also many of the exhibits. There are also small thematic sections on moments, facts, issues of the history of the island, as well as a special tribute to the history of Saint George and the old churches of the Upper Chora with photographs by Plato Rivellis. It also includes a section on archaeological discoveries (Halandriani, Kastri, Agios Loukas, Grammata), which is also a small reference to the archaeological research that has experienced important moments in Syrah since the second half of the 19th century.
