Archaeological Museum of Lefkada

Lefkada is full of history dating back thousands of years. This excellent museum, illuminates island history from the Paleolithic era to the Late Roman times. It hosts all important archaeological artifacts found on the island, including those resulting from W. Dörpfeld’s digs in Nirikos, Hirospilia and Nydri. It is not a big museum, but what it lacks in size it makes up for with some impressive pieces. Here, you will find four rooms with coins, fishing and farming equipment, musical instruments, weapons, figurines and items related to ancient funeral ceremonies. Most of the artifacts come from ancient burial sites, so you get a real insight into life back then. Information posts on the wall also tell of life, commerce and beliefs of the day. The Archaeological Museum of Lefkada is housed in a wing of the Lefkada Municipality Cultural Center, near the town's open-air theater. If you want to experience the rich history of Lefkada and immerse yourself into the island’s fascinating past, this is the perfect place.
