Achata beach
The beach is located on the east coast of Karpathos, 12 km northwest of the capital of the island, Pigadia. This is a 35-minute drive from Pigadia, and the small road down to it is well maintained. Achata is in a beautiful and idyllic cove surrounded by mountains with dense vegetation that create a magical landscape, making the beach one of the most beautiful in Karpathos. The beach is short in length but wide enough and it combines sand with pebbles and crystal clear, turquoise waters that deepen sharply. The scenery is fantastic and there are some sea caves to explore. There are at least two such caves on the left side of the beach where you can enter from one side of the cave and leave on the other. Also, a little island to swim and dive off.
Part of the beach is organized with umbrellas and sunbeds. There is a tavern on the beach but in the wider area there are no other tourist infrastructure. It's easy to reach the beach through the provincial road that passes through the village of Aperi which is located at a distance of about 5 kilometers from Achata Beach. Alternatively, there are tourist boats that make daily excursions starting from Pigadia. This place can get crowded so it is better to come late in the afternoon. Overall, Achata is a very nice beach definitely worth visiting.
