Amarandos beach
Amarandos Beach on Skopelos gained international fame after being featured in the hit movie Mamma Mia, serving as the backdrop for several memorable scenes. However, this isn’t just any typical beach—it's a rocky cape surrounded by lush vegetation and crystal-clear waters. The vibrant green landscape, which often reaches the edge of the sea, combined with the strikingly blue waters and rugged terrain, creates a stunning, almost surreal setting. Three tall pine trees perched on a white rock, set against the endless blue of the Aegean Sea, add to the breathtaking beauty of the scene.
The waters at Amarandos are typically calm, earning the cape its local nickname, "the pool." Swimming in the clear waters here is an unforgettable experience. However, be prepared for a bit of a challenge when entering or exiting the water, as there is no sandy shore—only rocks that you'll need to dive from and then climb to get back out. We recommend bringing water shoes to help you navigate the rocky terrain more easily. This spot is also ideal for fishing and exploring the underwater world with a mask and snorkel.
Amarandos Cape is undeniably one of the most breathtaking locations on Skopelos, making it a must-see for those who enjoy adventure or seek less touristy spots. Situated on the southern side of the island, the cape is accessible via a dirt road that begins just before the village of Agnontas. Alternatively, if you enjoy hiking, you can leave your vehicle by the sea and walk to this magnificent spot. The hike takes about 40 minutes, depending on how fit you are, but the journey is incredibly scenic and definitely worth the effort.
Many visitors from around the world come to Caoe Amarandos to relive the magic of Mamma Mia, exchanging vows of love and recreating scenes from the famous movie. Do not forget to bring water and your camera to capture the beauty of this unique landscape.
