Moni beach

Moni beach

Moni is a beautiful uninhabited island just a 20-minute boat ride from Aegina. The only inhabitants in the island are some wild deer, peacocks and a couple of turkeys. They wander around the island and its main attraction. They are nice to look at but they surround you if the think you have any food. Please, DO NOT feed them.

The beach itself has clear water and is slightly rocky as you in but then becomes sandy. For someone elderly or unsteady on their feet, it is not easy to navigate. This is probably the only down side. Other than that, the water is beautiful, transparent and warm for a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean. It is not deep at the beginning, and there is a bar overlooking the clear water that serves decent snack food and drinks. The bar has a DJ that plays contemporary music all day.  A choice of sunbeds and poufs for lounging are available right on the waterfront. Prices depend on the time of the year. Moreover, there are lots of pine trees to give you scent and shade if the sunbeds are full.

The beach can get extremely busy during summer, so we would suggest to visit it off season or during the week. Avoid visiting Moni on weekends and public holidays if you want to relax away from crowds. Do not miss to walk to the top of the small mountain in the center of the island, to enjoy some great views, but bear in mind to wear good shoes. If you are keen on snorkeling a ten-minute walk to the other side of the island gives deeper water for more ambitious snorkeling. For lunch you can return to Perdika port where there are many beautiful fish tavernas. Overall, Moni is a lovely tranquil little island with a nice beach to swim, and wildlife to see. A visit to Moni Island and its gorgeous beach is an absolutely must if you are on Aegina.

To get to Moni Island, go to Perdika anc catch the boat from there rather than straight from Aegina Port as Perdika is worth to stop for lunch or dinner once you have had a few hours on Moni Island. The cost to get to Moni and back from the port is around 5 euros. The easiest way to get to Perdika from Aegina Town is by car or bike, however there is a frequent bus service if you do not have a vehicle.
