Valmas beach

Valmas beach can be found by walking past the church of Agia Irini, at the southern tip of the marina. It is mainly rocky so it does not get very busy as it is difficult to enter into the water. But if you like to snorkel, this probably one of the best places on Ios. Due to the rocky landscape, the water remains clear and you can see lots of fish and take some underwater photos. The water does not get blur due to the absence of sand and seabed is clearly visible to a great depth. Riound the right side of the bay, there is a cave you can swim to and go all the way through. The beach is easily accessible along a path from the church of Agia Irini (15 mins) or through a dirt track from Ios Town. The path offers some great views of the ocean and the entrance of the port. The beach is not organized, but there is a tavern, which was closed when we visited Valmas beach at the end of June. If you would like to visit this little cove, you’d better bring water and sun protection with you, as there isn’t any natural shade or any facilities nearby.
