Folklore Museum of Panormitis Symi
The Folklore Museum of Panormitis is housed within the Monastery of Panormitis, alongside the Ecclesiastical Museum of Symi, and presents aspects of the island's traditional way of life and the history of the monastery.
The collection includes historic household objects, the monastery's old cellar, a traditional Symi living room with a bedroom, and the monastery's first kitchen. Visitors can also see agricultural tools, 19th-century weights and measures, and items associated with traditional women's household activities, including an old loom.
A separate section displays personal belongings and the radio of the late Chrysanthos Maroulakis, preserving a more personal aspect of Symi's recent history.
Library and Gallery of Panormitis Monastery
The monastery also houses a library containing around 6,000 old and modern books covering a wide range of subjects, including theology, philosophy, mathematics, medicine and literature.The monastery's gallery features contemporary paintings inspired by the monastery and the island of Symi, adding an artistic dimension to the visit.
Together with the Ecclesiastical Museum, the folklore collection, library and gallery make the Panormitis Monastery one of the most interesting cultural sights around Panormitis Bay. The visit offers an opportunity to learn more about Symi's traditions, religious heritage and everyday life.
