Military Museum of Kalamata
The Military Museum of Kalamata is small but tells the history well. This museum’s displays depict Greek military history from roughly 1821 to 1944, through a fascinating collection of photos, uniforms, medals and weaponry, often donated it seems from the soldiers who wore them. A few placards detail their history. For those who enjoy martial nostalgia, the Military History Museum is an earnest example of a small-scale good effort. The top floor comprises a small lecture room and a collection of amateur easel paintings depicting various battles. The museum is run by the Greek Army and there is always a serving soldier to show you round. It is an interesting place to visit that will help you learn a lot about Greek military history. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. There is no admittance charge, but there is a donations box.
